Friends of the Danville Library

*The Friends of the Danville Library is a nonprofit volunteer organization established in 1958 to provide our local library with books and materials that would not otherwise be available. The Friends also sponsor adult, children's and teen programs. Funds are raised through memberships, donations, the Friends Bookstore, quarterly book sales and online at amazon.com.

A membership in the Friends of the Danville Library brings benefits to you as well as your library. Members receive The Friendly News - a publication with information about library events. Friends also enjoy discounts at several participating merchants and early admission to the large quarterly book sales on Friday morning, before the sale is open to the public.

Friends of the Danville Library is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization and contributions are tax deductible as allowed by law.

Book Sales

Find something for everyone in the Friends Bookstore - fiction, nonfiction, children's books, even beautiful "like-new" coffee table books, DVDs, audio books and music CDs. Stop in to browse and buy our great bargains.

The bookstore is located inside the Danville Library and is open the following hours:
Mondays from 10:00 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

In addition, there are quarterly book sales when thousands of books are available for purchase. These special sales take place in the Mt. Diablo Room of the Library. For dates, click on Book Sales under Friends, Donations in the blue column to the left.

Donations

We are glad to accept your book donations for our sales. All books in good, clean condition are saleable. We also accept videos, books-on-tape, audio books, DVDs and CDs. We do not accept encyclopedias, National Geographic, Reader’s Digest, magazines of any kind, textbooks more than two years old, or any books that have been exposed to smoke, mildew or water.

For additional information, see the library's general information on donations.

Membership

Many members of the Friends volunteer their time for book sorting, helping with large book sales and volunteering in the bookstore. Membership applications are available at the Library or on-line. Do you have questions? Call 925-938-READ (925-938-7323).

The Friends of the Danville Library Endowment Fund

The Friends of the Danville Library Endowment Fund was established to ensure that our library has the books, materials, programs and activities that *often suffer due to the ebb and flow of tax-based support. The deep-rooted community backing that we have found ensures our library's excellence and that it will flourish even during difficult times. Contributions in any amount are welcome. Our funds are professionally managed by the East Bay Community Foundation, and through their auspices we are able to accept donations of securities, bequests and a variety of planned giving programs such as charitable remainder trusts and charitable lead trusts. For more information on the Endowment and the ways in which you can make a lasting contribution to the Danville Library, please call 925-938-READ (925-938-7323).

Currently the Endowment is raising funds to provide Arts Enrichment in the Library. This is a program sorely needed as funding for the arts is being eliminated or severely cut back in many schools. These programs will allow elementary and middle school students to experience literature painting, sculpture, music and theatre in fun and educational ways. The goal of the Endowment is to raise $100,000.00 by December 31, 2011 so that these programs can be funded over a period of several years.

You can help bring Arts Enrichment to our children
Write a check made payable to FODL (Friends of the Danville Library) Endowment Fund and send it to Danville Library, 400 Front Street, Danville, CA 94526.

The Endowment continues to support The British Book Collection established by the Endowment to honor the memory of Branch Librarian Stefanie van Ogtrop (1940-2005). Areas that have also received support are children’s reference, western history and fiction, art, business, and self-help. These and other collections will continue to receive Endowment funds on the recommendation of Senior Community Library Manager Seng Lovan.

All donations to the Endowment are tax deductible.
