About the Pleasant Hill Library

The Pleasant Hill Library Project

The Pleasant Hill Library was built in 1961 on approximately 5 acres between Oak Park Boulevard and Santa Barbara Road in Pleasant Hill. The building houses the Library, one of 25 community libraries in the Contra Costa County Library system, as well as the offices of the Project Second Chance adult literacy program. Contra Costa County's Library Administration relocated from this site to 777 Arnold Drive in Martinez in 2016 in anticipation of the construction of a new Pleasant Hill Community Library. That year, residents of Pleasant Hill passed Measure K with 66% approval, securing city funding for the new facility to be located in the immediate vicinity of the current library.

The library’s collection has 85,000 books, audiobooks, videos, DVDs, and CDs that circulate nearly half a million times a year. We offer free Internet access from 38 computers and wifi throughout the library. The Pleasant Hill Library is a partial Depository Library for Federal government documents.

The Library fosters lifelong learning with programs for all ages, including four weekly storytimes, family nights and maker events, afterschool activities for teens and tweens, music and author talks for adults, tech support, a weekly ESL conversation group, 3 monthly book clubs, and more. We are grateful for the support of The Friends of the Pleasant Hill Library, which raise funds for new books and programs.
