Standards of Behavior

It is the policy of the Contra Costa County Library to provide a safe, welcoming environment that will support the goal of bringing people and ideas together.

Collection Development and Access

It is the policy of the Contra Costa County Library to meet the informational, educational, recreational, and cultural needs of the community by providing a variety of library resources. Professional judgment and ongoing community analysis guide the selection process.

Electronic Resources and Access

Consistent with the library's mission, "Bringing People and Ideas together," the Contra Costa County Library provides collections, resources, and services to meet the cultural, informational, recreational, and educational needs of Contra Costa County's diverse community.

In response to advances in technology and the changing needs of the community, the Contra Costa County Library provides access to electronic information resources, including the Internet. This policy affirms the safeguarding of the library users' First Amendment rights, intellectual freedom, equity of access and confidentiality.

The Contra Costa County Library provides public access to the Internet. Access is limited by the number of workstations available at any given time. Therefore, the Library must impose some time and usage limits on each individual in order to be fair to all.

Use of Meeting Rooms in Libraries

Contra Costa County Library to encourage the use of library meeting rooms for educational, cultural and community related meetings, programs, and activities. Group Study Rooms are also available at some locations.

Exhibits and Displays

It is the policy of the Contra Costa County Library to encourage the use of library exhibit cases and the display and distribution of non-library materials for cultural, educational, or civic purposes. Space is available for use by community groups and individuals. Such exhibits, displays, and materials are not intended to express the views of Contra Costa County or the Library of its staff. They represent the views of the group or individual preparing the exhibit or providing the display and distribution.

Designation of Agent to Receive Notification of Claimed Infringement

A notification of claimed copyright infringement must be provided in writing to the Contra Costa County Library's designated agent. The designated agent to receive notification of claimed infringement under Title II of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. ยง 512) is: Cathy Sanford, Deputy County Librarian/Support Services.
