Staff Spotlight: Doug Thomas,
Adult Services Librarian at Oakley

Doug Thomas

Doug Thomas grew up in Oakland and says it was a librarian at the city’s public library that helped him to cultivate a love for reading. That early exposure to libraries may have helped to start him on a path to his future career, but it was random turn of events in college that cemented it.

“I had to work 16 hours a week in a college department to keep my scholarship, and the only department willing to offer me that many hours was the library,” he says. “I worked for the Special Collections/Archives and it opened me to the world of fine, rare, art, and the preservation of history through archival means.”
