Addie Spanbock completed her undergraduate degree in literature and wasn’t sure what type of career she wanted to pursue. After college, she took time off and researched different career paths before deciding to pursue her master’s degree in library and information science.

“During college I spent a lot of time in the academic libraries on campus and was always so comfortable there,“she says. “I thought it would be a good fit for me and it was one of the best decisions I ever made."

Addie has been with the Contra Costa County Library for two years and is the adult services librarian at the Concord Library. She likes interacting with the public and getting to know the members of the community whom she describes as friendly and down-to-earth.

“Our patrons really value the library and its resources. They come in with very diverse needs and interests and view the library as the hub of the city,” she says. “As a Concord resident myself, it helps me to better understand my community both personally and professionally.”

Her favorite part of being a librarian is doing outreach at two local retirement facilities where she knows all the residents by name and enjoys helping to create a personalized library experience for each of them.

“Serving seniors is truly the best part of my job,” she says. “If I am in a bad mood that day, they always lift my spirits.”

Addie received her bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Santa Cruz and her master’s degree from San Jose State University.
