Meet your Librarian

Meet Ruth Boyer, Community Library Manager at Martinez

Ruth BoyerRuth Boyer is celebrating 11 years with the Contra Costa County Library. She is the Community Library Manager at the Martinez Library, but has also worked at the Orinda, Moraga, and Dougherty Station branches.

Ruth did her undergraduate work at UCLA and received her master’s in library information science from San Jose State University. She says early in her career a wise lady gave her some important advice.

“She told me that being a librarian wouldn’t make me a millionaire, but it’s a job that makes you glad to get up in the morning,” she explains. “I’ve remembered that throughout my time working for the library and it still holds true. At the end of the day, I’m so glad to be a librarian.”

Away from the library Ruth loves spending time with her family, cooking, and eating. She says if she couldn’t be a librarian she would like to be a food historian.

“I like to eat a lot,” she laughs. “My husband at one point wanted to enter me in competitive eating contests.”

Ruth’s favorite part about being a librarian is that you never know what the day will bring. She hopes to help more people in the community rediscover their love for reading.
