Pittsburg Library Celebrates New Extended Hours

The Pittsburg Library is celebrating an increase in open hours. Beginning on Monday, October 3 the library will be open six days each week for a total of 12 additional hours a week.

Thanks to an increase in funding from the City of Pittsburg the library will be open on Mondays and two additional hours on Tuesdays. This is the first time the city has been able to fund additional hours at the library beyond the 40 base hours paid for by the County and the first time since 2009 the library will be open on Mondays. The city is paying for the extra hours with money from Measure M, a half-cent sales tax that generates between $3.6 and $3.8 million in revenue for the city each year.

“We are grateful for our long-standing partnership with the City of Pittsburg and thrilled that they are funding these additional hours,” said County Librarian Alison McKee. “We look forward to continuing to work together providing excellent library services, programs and resources to Pittsburg residents.”

“Twelve additional hours a week gives us the chance to offer many more programs and services to the community,” said Pittsburg Library Manager Ginny Golden. “We’re excited to spread the word that we are now open six days a week.”
