Pleasant Hill Temporary Library to open July 14

The new temporary library in Pleasant Hill will open on Tuesday, July 14 in the City Hall Community Rooms at 100 Gregory Lane. The Library will be open Tuesday through Saturday for Front Door Service, a safe contactless way to pick up materials.

Patrons can place holds at the temporary library beginning today, July 6. After receiving confirmation that the holds have arrived, patrons can make appointments for pick-up beginning on July 14. Appointments are encouraged, but not required. Those coming to the library without appointments may experience a wait.

Once at the library, the patron should call or text the number on the sign at the front of the library. Staff will confirm the library card number and collect the items. Materials will be placed in a bag with the patron’s name on it and put on a table at the front door.

On June 15, the Pleasant Hill City Council unanimously agreed to locate the temporary library in the Community Rooms at City Hall, rather than the Senior Center at Pleasant Hill Park. The city decided to search for an alternate location citing concerns for public health and the vulnerability of the primary population served at the Senior Center.

“We are working closely with the city to get the temporary library up and running as quickly as possible,” said County Librarian Melinda Cervantes. “We look forward to continuing our long and successful partnership, serving the Pleasant Hill community.”

The temporary library will remain open while the new Pleasant Hill Library is under construction on Oak Park Blvd. The new library is expected to open in late 2021 and will include a collection of 70,000 items and spaces for reading, storytelling, accessing technology, collaborating and gathering. There will be a special “maker space” for hands-on creativity, and outdoor spaces for reading and play.
