Dear Library Patrons,
Our community is facing unprecedented challenges as we navigate this global pandemic. We know that many of you are out of work, with kids home from school, and struggling to find resources to support the needs of your family.
To that end, Library staff are very busy creating new ways to serve you. I am extremely proud of the work they have accomplished in this short time. They are learning new technology platforms, reaching out to community partners and performers and sharing little glimpses into their own lives, at home, through videos and social media. Their enthusiasm toward serving the public, despite the current challenges, is remarkable. I can’t wait to see what they come up with next. Please visit the website (ccclib.org) for yourself to see the online events and programs, curated booklists, video storytime and all the other amazing content these talented people have created.
As you know, all the libraries remain closed while we abide by the County Health Order. It is critical that the Library continue to do its part to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Your health and safety and that of our staff and volunteers is our top priority.
Though we are closed, staff members have begun preparing for the future, when we will be able to reopen buildings and restore some services. We don't know when that will be or what restrictions will be in place, but we are doing our best to plan ahead. We remain committed to our strategic goals to champion literacy and reading, provide equitable access, deliver consistent, high-quality service and promote the Library’s value.
Please check the website and follow us on Facebook and Twitter for the latest updates on Library services or connect with your community library’s social media accounts.
I am grateful to work in such a giving and supportive community and honored to lead this Library with more than 100 years of service to Contra Costa County. We miss you and hope to see you all soon.
Sincerely,
Melinda Cervantes
County Librarian
