A message from County Librarian Melinda Cervantes – June 2020

Dear Library Patrons,

We have heard from so many of you how much you miss the Library and value the services we provide. We have missed you, too, and are thrilled to share that in the coming weeks we will be announcing the details of Front Door Service at our libraries. After discussion with the County Health Officer, the decision to reopen for limited service comes as part of phase two of reopening Contra Costa County.

When launched, Front Door Service, will offer you the ability to pick-up your holds and drop-off your returns. As we will continue to do our part to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our community, mask and social distancing protocols will be in place.

The staff reported back to the libraries for the first time this week to begin the important work necessary to offer this service. There is much to do including moving furniture, creating book quarantine areas, shelving the hundreds of books returned over the last two months and most importantly training. For your safety and that of our staff, it is imperative that they feel comfortable and informed regarding the new service.

Stay tuned for more information about Front Door Service including details for using the service, when you can start placing holds and how to return books. We expect to launch in mid-June.

We have extended all holds through July 31, 2020 to give you plenty of time to safely return your items once we reopen.

Stay safe and healthy. We will see you soon.

Sincerely,
Melinda Cervantes
County Librarian
