Fall is here and that means it’s time for our annual countywide book club, Read Contra Costa. This year’s selection is the award-winning “The Things We Didn’t Know,” by Elba Iris Pérez. The book is a coming-of-age story about a girl moving to the United States from Puerto Rico, learning to exist in two cultures, and navigating family rifts while learning to assimilate to American culture. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and heartily recommend it!
Read Contra Costa is an annual event that encourages all county residents and library users to share in the experience of reading and discussing the same book at the same time. If you’d like to read the book it is available in hardback, eBook and eAudiobook formats.
Read Contra Costa runs through November 12 and there will be two opportunities to listen to the author discuss her novel and ask her questions. She will appear in person at the Pleasant Hill Library on November 9 at 11 a.m. and virtually via Zoom on November 12 at 6:30 p.m.
Library staff have created a page dedicated to Read Contra Costa that includes a blog post with a more in-depth look at the book, a link to all the related programs and events, and a way to submit a question to the author to be asked at one of her upcoming events. El otoño está aquí y eso significa que es tiempo para nuestro club anual del libro en todo el condado, Read Contra Costa. La elección de este año es el premiado.“The Things We Didn’t Know,” por Elba Iris Pérez. El libro es una historia de madurez sobre una chica que se muda a Estados Unidos desde Puerto Rico, aprende a convivir en dos culturas y navega por las desavenencias familiares mientras aprende a asimilarse a la cultura estadounidense. Me ha gustado mucho y lo recomiendo sinceramente.
Read Contra Costa es un evento anual que anima a todos los residentes del condado y usuarios de la biblioteca a compartir la experiencia de leer y comentar el mismo libro al mismo tiempo. Si desea leer el libro, está disponible en portada dura, Libro digital y libro de audio electrónico.
Read Contra Costa durará hasta el 12 de noviembre y habrá dos oportunidades para escuchar a la autora hablar de su novela y hacerle preguntas. Ella aparecerá en persona en la Biblioteca Pleasant Hill el 9 de noviembre a las 11 a.m. y virtualmente a través de Zoom el 12 de noviembre a las 6:30 pm.
