Local History Connection Notice and Reproduction Guidelines

Please read the following copyright notice and reproduction policy before using images from Contra Costa County Library’s (CCCL) Local History Connection database. Your use of these images for any purpose acknowledges your understanding of and compliance with the terms and conditions outlined below.

Copyright and Fair Use:

Images from the Local History Connection collection may be used for noncommercial educational and research purposes under the terms of “Fair Use” as defined by copyright law, United States Code, Title 17, Section 107 . Conditions of fair use specify that reproduction or use of these images may not be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship or research." If you use images from these collections for purposes outside of fair use, you may be liable for copyright infringement.

While copyright of electronic format, metadata, and descriptions for the digital collection in Local History Connection is retained by the Contra Costa County Library, copyright for the images may be owned by other entities. For permission to use a particular item for commercial purposes, or any purpose outside of the definition of “Fair Use,” you must send an inquiry to the owning entity. This entity is identified in the "Rights Holder" field of the description for each item.

The Contra Costa County Library does not assume responsibility for users’ or publishers’ infringement of copyright held by the original author or creator or his/her heirs, assigns, or executors. Responsibility for securing any necessary permissions ultimately rests with persons desiring to use the item.

Copyright of historical collections may be difficult or impossible to determine. The Contra Costa County Library would like to hear from any copyright owners who are not properly identified.
