Questions about fair use?

While copyright of electronic format, metadata, and descriptions for the digital collection in Local History Connection is retained by the Contra Costa County Library, copyright for the images may be owned by other entities. For permission to use a particular item for commercial purposes, or any purpose outside of the definition of “Fair Use,” you must send an inquiry to the owning entity. This entity is identified in the "Rights Holder" field of the description for each item.

The Contra Costa County Library does not assume responsibility for users’ or publishers’ infringement of copyright held by the original author or creator or his/her heirs, assigns, or executors. Responsibility for securing any necessary permissions ultimately rests with persons desiring to use the item.

Copyright of historical collections may be difficult or impossible to determine. The Contra Costa County Library would like to hear from any copyright owners who are not properly identified.
