PSC Prospective Tutor Information Session and Application

Thank you for your interest in becoming an adult literacy tutor! Please watch our Information Session video to learn more about tutoring with Project Second Chance and review the Tutor Qualifications that follow.

Tutor Qualifications

  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Comfortable with your own English reading, writing, and speaking skills.

Able to:

  • Work sensitively with someone from a cultural background other than your own.
  • Attend all sessions of basic tutor training, plus an additional day of training if you wish to tutor an adult who shows indications of a learning disability.
  • Work with a learner twice a week for 90 minutes each lesson. With preparation and travel time, most tutors spend 15-20 hours per month.
  • Make at least a six-month commitment to the program after being matched with a learner. It often takes 1-2 months after training to be matched, so please factor this in when considering the commitment.
