PSC Prospective Tutor Information Session and Application
Thank you for your interest in tutoring with Project Second Chance.
Due to program capacity, we are no longer accepting applications from tutors for our 2025 trainings, with the exception of East County residents (Bay Point and eastward). If you live in another part of Contra Costa County and would like to be considered for future trainings, you may still submit an application. We’ll contact you about our 2026 trainings.

Tutor Qualifications
- At least 21 years of age.
- Comfortable with your own English reading, writing, and speaking skills.
Able to:
- Work sensitively with someone from a cultural background other than your own.
- Attend all sessions of basic tutor training, plus an additional day of training if you wish to tutor an adult who shows indications of a learning disability.
- Work with a learner twice a week for 90 minutes each lesson. With preparation and travel time, most tutors spend 15-20 hours per month.
- Make at least a six-month commitment to the program after being matched with a learner. It often takes 1-2 months after training to be matched, so please factor this in when considering the commitment.
