Raspberry Pi

The Raspberry Pi is a low cost, credit-card sized computer that is capable of doing everything you'd expect a desktop computer to do from browsing the internet to playing high-definition video. The Raspberry Pi is pre-installed with a suite of programs that can be used for word-processing and to create spreadsheets and presentations as well as multiple coding programs.

Anyone who has a Contra Costa County Library card can borrow the Raspberry Pi kit and the Raspberry Pi Mini kit at no charge. The kits are displayed in the Library catalog and may be requested by placing a hold, visiting a library service desk, or contacting Library staff for assistance.

You can check out one kit at a time for a three week loan period.

If you don't have a Library card, you can apply online for an eCard or visit your local library to apply for a full-service library card.

The Raspberry Pi kits may be renewed twice. If another Library user has placed a hold on the item and there are no other available kits, then it cannot be renewed.

All Raspberry Pi kits must be returned directly to library staff. Staff will check the contents to verify that all parts are present before the kit is cleared from your account.

Information about Contra Costa County Library's fees and charges for lost, damaged, or missing kit parts is available. If the kit is missing or damaged, your account will be billed for the full cost of the kit plus a $10 processing fee.

The Contra Costa County Library is happy to offer two Raspberry Pi kits.

The Raspberry Pi kit contains a Raspberry Pi 400, power cable, mouse, HDMI cable, SD card, tablet, tablet power cable, and coding kit. Everything is packed in a case.

The Raspberry Pi Mini kit has a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+, power cable, HDMI cable, SD card, and coding kit, but does not have the tablet or mouse.

The coding kit contains a breadboard, jumper wires, LED lights, resistors, and charts with information on how to read the resistors and the GPIO pins on the Raspberry Pi.
