August is almost here but there is still plenty of warm weather and summer left to get out of the house and enjoy some of the beauty and intrigue that the Bay Area and California have to offer.
Did you know you can get free or reduced-price tickets to museums, zoos, science centers and cultural venues with your library card? Discover & Go is an amazing service designed to give library cardholders the opportunity to explore more of their local cultural venues for educational purposes or just for fun! Discover & Go was created by the Contra Costa County Library in 2011 and now includes more than 100 destination partners. Libraries all across California and the country participate or mirror the program. For more information about Discover & Go, visit ccclib.discoverandgo.net.
And through October, the Library is offering free Clipper cards for use with Discover & Go reservations, while supplies last. The offer is good for select Discover & Go attractions. This promotion is a partnership between 511 Contra Costa and the Library and is intended to encourage the use of public transportation to visit the venues. If time in nature is what you’re craving this summer, the Library can help with that too. Your library card gives you access to explore California State Parks and East Bay Parks for free. The California State Library Parks Pass program provides a free vehicle day-use entry for one vehicle at 200+ participating state parks. The Outdoor Explorers program gives free access to any East Bay Regional Park. Just check out a backpack that includes binoculars, nature identification guides, a temporary parking pass, and a temporary family membership card. Place a hold for either of the parks passes on the Library of Things page at ccclib.org/library-of-things.
One of our favorite things to say around here is that the library is so much more than just books. I hope you are taking advantage of everything your library card has to offer and telling your friends and family all about it.
