Dear Valued Library Patron,

Happy New Year!

Although 2021 continued to provide many challenges to our organization (as well as the entire world) we were still able to successfully focus on our mission of bringing people and ideas together. Here’s a brief recap of some of what we implemented so you can appreciate all the transitions we navigated in order to continue to provide excellent service and access to the library and library resources. Early in the year, we launched our extremely popular lendable Raspberry Pi and Wi-Fi hotspot programs to help bridge some of the digital divide that became so starkly evident during the pandemic. Although we were restricted to offering Front Door Service at the beginning of the year, in April we were able to welcome the public back inside library buildings for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic. Because libraries are needed now more than ever, in July we increased open hours at 17 library branches for a total of 121 additional open hours per week countywide. Due to the ongoing effort to keep library staff and patrons safe and healthy, we continued to offer all library events and programs online only. We’ve been pleasantly surprised at how effective the online format is for certain types of events and will be providing ASL and Spanish translation for some programs next year. We capped off the year by giving all library users an opportunity to fill out a survey to let us know how we can continue to improve the library in the ways that matter most to you.

Looking forward, we have big plans in 2022. The Concord Library’s children’s area is getting remodeled, the Ygnacio Valley Library will finally reopen after the completion of the construction on the new parking lot, and the brand-new Pleasant Hill Library will celebrate its grand opening this spring. Lastly, we will be examining and analyzing the results of the patron survey and will report our findings. There is so much to look forward to and as always, we hope to see you soon.

Have a safe, healthy and happy new year!

Sincerely,

Alison McKee
County Librarian

Atentamente,

Alison McKee
Bibliotecaria del condado
